Regional Planning

Regional Planning is a scientific and academic field of study that has been put forward with the aim of eliminating regional inequalities. However, on the basis of the rapid changes in the socio-economic structure of the world, it has led to new discussions on spatial organization and new concepts related to space. Today, spatial definitions and concepts defined as urban, rural, metropolitan, metropolitan region and region in the study area of regional planning are constantly changing and developing. In terms of planning, there have been changes in terms and meanings since the 1950s. Although regional planning has a different content with its previous definition, it provides a comprehensive framework that includes economic, social and environmental issues consisting of different fields of expertise. Planning objectives, created through Regional Planning and program-based courses, aim to provide conditions that can lead the development process in terms of environmental quality and social and economic conditions, as well as the formation of local / regional structure. These goals can be complemented by a livable and sustainable environment, conditions that develop local development potential, and a vibrant economic structure. Planners are needed to achieve development goals on a local/regional scale. In addition to their previous functions, planners are required to have different roles depending on the new system of regulation and governance. The transfer of the inferences and decisions in research processes from the local area to the region will be possible with the role of planners as mediator and negotiator technician. The main task of the planners is to have the ability to reflect the local dynamics and wishes (priorities) to the spatial decision stages while constructing all development conditions at the technical level with the help of world-wide developments.
