About

The Department of Architecture/Faculty of Architecture/Erciyes University, began education in 1992. Erciyes University, one of the important universities in the Central Anatolia, has maintained its understanding of quality education at the department. The Department of Architecture had its first graduates in 1996 and continues to train architects who are actively working in the construction industry today. The Department, which started education first at the Faculty of Engineering, then moved to the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Since 2003, the faculty has been continuing its activities at the building of Faculty of Architecture. Considering the fact that the architectural education is a different process, spatial quality is of great importance. The department offers high comfort conditions with large ateliers that provide the students with common areas of study, classes for individual studies, computer labs, and libraries. In addition, common meeting places for social interaction, indispensable parts of architectural education, are offered. Today, the department of architecture is continuing education with 27 academic staff members in total, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 8 assistant professors, 3 lecturers, and 13 research assistants. In addition, it carries out joint studies with the departments of Urban and Regional Planning, Sociology, Civil Engineering, History, Art History, and Fine Arts by taking interdisciplinary studies into consideration. Architectural education is a process maintained with research, synthesis, and practice. The participation of architects having practice experience on local and national scales besides theoretical education in the studio environment of education is provided. Furthermore, this environment is enriched by carrying out joint studio works in cooperation with the Architecture Faculties/Departments of different universities. This process enables our students to become architects not only graduating just with theoretical education but also serving actively in the practice stage. During the process of architectural education, in addition to the applied and theoretical courses in the fields of design, history, theory, construction, conservation, environment, environmental and cultural sustainability, and elective courses that support these fields, there are courses that can be selected from different disciplines. In the course of the lessons, the development of the student's understanding of the conditions and norms in which architecture is shaped, the development of evaluation and questioning skills, and keeping different ways of thinking open are considered as the basic components of the architectural education and information process. The main aim of the Department is to create environments for intellectual actions such as quality learning and teaching, getting information, and producing knowledge. In addition, the other major aim of the department is to educate architects who will ensure that design products of all sizes in our country have original and high qualifications.
